Mamie Phipps Clark, PhD, and Kenneth Clark, PhD were the first African Americans to obtain their doctorate degrees in psychology from Columbia University, opened the Northside Center for Child Development in , and testified as expert witnesses in the Brown vs. Board of Education case in , making them influential to the Civil Rights movement.
